"Hotel Hollywood, Hollywood, Cal."

Abstract/Description: Hand-colored postcard image shows an elevated frontal view of the Mission style Hotel Hollywood in Hollywood, California. The hotel, built in 1903 and located near Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue, was demolished in 1946. In the background atop the hill at far right is Yamashiro (meaning "Mountain Palace" in Japanese), originally built as a private mansion in 1914 by the brothers, Adolph and Eugene Bernheimer, later becoming a restaurant in the 1960s. The large white building at the foot of the hill is the Lane mansion, home of real estate magnate Rollin B. Lane, built in 1908, which became the Magic Castle, home to the Academy of Magical Arts, in 1963.
