Anne Curry Destabelle

Originally from New York, Anne left Long Island at the age of 17 to attend college at American University in Washington, D.C. In 1963, just after President John F. Kennedy spoke at her commencement, Anne moved to California on her own. After five years of raising her beautiful daughter Dawn Curry on her own, she married Ray Destabelle. Anne and Dawn have created a beautiful life with him. Anne’s maiden name was Anne Stallone, and she is distantly related to that other famous “Stallone.”

Anne loves to play tennis, mahjongg, and bridge, and performing on guitar and piano. She is a passionate reader. She loves writing scripts and performing with her Pennyroyal Players, a musical group she established in 2003. They perform all over Southern California. The group has raised over $135,000, and all of it is donated to various charities. Anne and her Pennyroyals were just awarded City of Torrance’s Excellence in Arts Award for 2017 in Music.

In pursuit of continuing her passion and bringing joy to those around her, as a hospital volunteer, she gives an hour piano concert weekly at Torrance Memorial Hospital. Anne is a member of the Committee for the LA Philharmonic, AAUW, Affinity and the Palos Verdes Peninsula Village. She is also a board member of City of Hope’s Angels of Hope. Anne chose Wayfarers Chapel for her photo as she and her guitar have performed there three times. The Chapel symbolizes to her all that is beauty and wonder in the world.
