Collection SummaryThese movies feature stories with the general theme of women and power, and provide a glimpse of how these women have struggled with or found power in their own lives. Ranging from personal sources of strength and determination to challenging society’s status quo, these movies show interpretations of "power" and the difference it has made in the storyteller's life. DescriptionSince 2016, the Palos Verdes Library District (PVLD) has been working with Berkeley-based StoryCenter, to bring storytelling and “storywork” to the Palos Verdes Peninsula community. Building on these efforts and the storywork techniques developed by StoryCenter, in 2018, PVLD participated in a state-wide effort to collect stories with the broad topic of “Women & Power” however defined by the storyteller. Women from the community volunteered to have their story recorded using the “ListeningStation,” a tool created by StoryCenter, and edited using the online editing tool called WeVideo. These stories will be archived in the Local History Center digital archives and with the California State Library. Thanks to our storytellers, staff, the California State Library and StoryCenter for support of this project.
