Recognizing the history of the Palos Verdes Peninsula is created by those who live, work and/or are associated with Palos Verdes, the Local History Center started a program called Your Story is the Peninsula's Story (YSPS) in 2016 to collect images from the community for inclusion in the digital archives.  Originally started as in-person public scanning events during the COVID pandemic, the Local History Center took the program online to allow community members to contribute from home.  

 

Palos Verdes Community Archives continues this effort to collect materials from the community and has enhanced features to allow the community to share recollections and tag people and locations on materials already included in the Archives. By using these features, community members can help build knowledge of the community.

Contributing Images

What kind of images are we looking for? Historical or contemporary images that tell your story and the Peninsula's events, people, places and organizations.  Examples include:

  • immigrant ancestors, family reunions, formal portraits, weddings
  • school buildings and school events
  • community events
  • local businesses
  • architecture
  • streetscapes and landscapes
  • places of worship
  • cultural celebrations
  • etc.

 

Black & white, color, new or old, if it is important to you, we'd like to add your story. By sharing your story, you help build a rich resource of primary source materials that tells the broader story of the Peninsula for future generations and researchers.

 

To share your image, click on the Upload button on the left navigation panel and follow the prompts. (If you haven't registered as a member, you'll be prompted to register.)

 

 When you contribute you'll be asked for your agreement to the photo release and permission notice below. 

 

Photo Release

I do hereby give the Palos Verdes Library District Local History Center, its assignees, licensees, and legal representatives the irrevocable right to use my name and image in all forms and media and in all manners, including composite representations, and advertising and other lawful purposes, and I waive any right to inspect or approve the finished product including written copy, that may be created in connection therewith.

 

Non-Exclusive Permission

I hereby grant permission to the Palos Verdes Library District, its assignees, licensees, and legal representatives to copy, display and distribute copies of the scanned documents I contribute to the Palos Verdes Community Archives form and to incorporate the scanned images in whole or in part into derivative works.  I retain all other rights to these photos, including without limitation, the right to copy, distribute, publish, display or modify the images, and to transfer, assign or grant license of any such rights.
